Modern evolution would
not occur in the absence of light, and light from our sun plays a vibrant part in our
day-to-day survival. It has revolutionized medicine, opened international
communication via the Internet, and stays to be essential to link economic and
political aspects of the universal civilization. Now, Optics is everywhere around the world; in
consumer electronics (barcode scanners at supermarkets), communications (Internet), health
(eye surgery, medical apparatuses), manufacturing trade (laser splitting and
machining), defense and security (infrared camera, distant detecting),
entertainment (holography, laser shows), etc.
You would have been
realized attractive and good-looking colors in soap films or patches of oil
buoyant on the uppermost layer of water. Moreover, the colors get changed when
you watch it from different angles. Did you ever try to find out the reason? In
scientific language, this takes place due to the phenomenon of interference. Colors append loveliness to our
homes, towns, and lives. Apart from colors, lights such as Sunlight, Moonlight,
and Starlight are also adding prettiness and wonderment to our EARTH. The features of the waves and
photons can be used to discover the universe, relieve diseases, and also to
resolve criminalities. Scientists and Knowledge experts have been studying
light for more than a century.

The colors of the
rainbow are only a small portion of the complete light wave range, called the
electromagnetic spectrum. Optics travels an extensive variability of
wavelengths, starting from gamma rays to ending radio-waves, with the inclusion
of x-rays, ultra-violet and infrared light. How come light- and light-based skills
influence our life daily around the world? Scientists, engineers, and experts
are carrying out cutting edge research, which is very close to the field of
optics. The science of light is also dynamically educated in classrooms and
museums where instructors and educationalists share their desire for this field
to young people and the general public.
To grasp the importance
of optics, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO) had declared the year 2015 as the International Year of
Light (IYL). The 21st century will depend as much on Optics as the 20th century
depended on electronics. The submissions of optics extend
over various sectors: from optical data communications to imaging,
lighting, and displays, from the manufacturing sector
to life sciences, health care, security, and safety. Optical fibers
are the heart of
an optical communication structure that turns as the transmission channel
carrying the light beam from one place the other, and the light beam (through
the optical fiber) takes place because of the phenomenon of total internal
reflection.
Laser light has many imperative applications of optics such
as: (i) Laser is used in printers (Laser printers, 3D printers) (ii) Laser
beams are highly intense and are used for cutting, drilling holes, welding of
materials(iii) Lasers are used most successfully in eye surgery, treatment of
dental decay, skin diseases and in cosmetics (iv) Lasers are used as bar code
scanners in the library and in shopping malls (v)The Laser beam is used in the
recording of intensity as well as holograms.
Therefore, we can say that optics is everywhere and had touched every
part of human life.
