Full Stack at NCU

The NorthCap University (NCU) continues to be the leader amongst the private Universities in Delhi & Haryana in the NIRF ranking, conducted by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India for the year 2020. The University has been ranked 110 in the Engineering category (Leading Private University in Haryana). Due to advancements in technologies in recent years, the University has taken numerous steps to reduce the gap between the Industry and Academia. Among the significant steps, BTech (CSE) has been introduced with various specializations. One of the specializations is Full Stack Development. Nowadays, Full stack Development is gaining rapid pace as an important professional skill for IT professionals. A Full Stack Web Developer is an expert who works on all phases of software development from beginning to end. Various aspects of Web Development are front-end, back-end, databases, version control, and so on. Companies are looking to recruit Full Stack Web Developers who are specialists in all areas of application development. The preference is given to people like a designer, programmer, and software expert who can play multiple roles. Specialist with particular subsystems, such as front-end or back end only, can't fully comprehend the broader view of the whole system development. However, it is difficult and time-intensive if several professionals are collaborating for the development of application software. Teamwork and scheduling also become a matter of importance.

At NCU, all through this vital specialization which is specifically crafted to provide a solid base for a good career to students. This helps students to articulate the concepts from theory with extensive practical knowledge through lab and projects for keeping industry requirements in place. The curriculum is designed appropriately with our industry partners which sets a firm foundation for a successful career pathway in this region. The courses under this specialization are designed exclusively in accordance with industry standards. This specialization provides a lot of exposure to the development process through practical applications and projects. It helps students to become an expert at Front-end and Back-end technologies by employing the most popular JAM (Java, Angular and MongoDB) Stack. It provides exposure to a broad range of technologies. With this specialization, students get the opportunity to solve non-trivial real-time problems and learn to create complex Server and Client-side web applications. The main objective is to align the students with short industrial projects in collaboration with industry experts. This specialization provides in-depth knowledge of the latest frameworks like spring, hibernate. It helps in building a path to a more lucrative and creative career in emerging technologies. This specialization provides brighter prospects for students to get more jobs in various industrial sectors and helps students to grab good placements with higher packages. The University is working very hard for industry readiness of students with an appropriate skill set.

A full-stack developer requires technical expertise and the opportunity to focus on the different technologies used during developing software. Some of the technologies are as follows:

·         Programming languages like Java
·         Front end technologies like HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript
·         Backend technologies like MongoDB, Hibernate
·         Working with Version Control Systems
·         Servers
·         UI/UX Design

Due to digitization and use of software solutions among various industries, Full-Stack Developers are in high demand. A full-stack developer works on building techniques for each part of the process of web development. Therefore, a full stack developer capability is hard to obtain and individuals with these abilities are strongly in demand in the industry. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the availability of jobs in Full Stack Development will rise from 135,000 to more than 853,000 by 2024.

YOGA

What is Yoga? Yoga is an ancient science, a holistic way of living, a method of enquiry, a way of understanding oneself, a path to self-realisation and self-actualisation. It is empirical in nature. It affects our physical and mental states of being, but its purpose is way beyond, it goes much deeper and subtler.

Yoga has been practiced since time immemorial, for more than 5000 years. The fact that it still exists today, and the world is waking up to it, shows its indefinite potential and timelessness.
The origin of the word Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word ‘Yujir’, which means to yoke, join, union. What is this union? The union is of one with oneself. Union of one with every creation of nature. Union of one with the entire Universe - achieving perfect harmony of body, mind and soul; attaining the perfect Yoga.

Yoga has been widely described in our ancient texts, the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Epics, Ramayana, Mahabharata and other innumerable texts. Yoga holds a very special place in the Indian system of belief, the Bhartiya Darshana, the Indian Philosophy.

Yoga is the Science of God Realization. It shows us that we are beyond our body, our senses, our mind and our intellect. We are the Supreme Soul, the Cosmic Divine, the Universal Consciousness. As the Upanishads say, Aham Brahmasmi, I am the Supreme Reality. Yoga is the realisation that the divine exists in all of us. We are all part of the One, Brahman – the Ultimate Reality, and the union of individual consciousness with the universal consciousness is possible and is the greatest goal.

Maharishi Patanjali in his text, Patanjala Yoga Darshana, gives the eight-limb system of Yoga, called the Ashtanga Yoga. The 8 limbs being: Yama (Abstinences) à Niyama (Observances) à Asana (Stable Posture) à Pranayama (Breath Regulation) àPratyahara (Withdrawal of the senses) à Dharana (Concentration) à Dhyana (Meditation) à Samadhi (Absorption). An aspirant starts with correcting his behaviour and conduct (Yama and Niyama), then works on his physical body to attain mental stability (Asana), then on his breath and mind (Pranayama), slowly withdraws his senses (Pratyahara), starts concentrating and goes deeper (Dharana and Dhyana) and finally attains liberation (Samadhi). The Ashtanga Yoga path is one of the many ways to attain perfect Yoga.

Similarly, Shrimad Bhagavad Gita, the Song of the Divine, is a revered text which expounds on the 4 paths of Yoga – Karma Yoga, Dhyana Yoga, Jnana (Gyan) Yoga and Bhakti Yoga. All paths are interconnected and they all lead to one destination. The Bhagavad Gita can also be called one of the best texts for personal and professional management. This is because it teaches all the virtues required for leading a balanced, meaningful and stable life – personal as well as professional.

Let me also tell you about my personal experience. Yoga came into my life when I was directionless and clueless. I didn’t know the path forward. Yoga embraced me with open arms and changed my life. It has taught me discipline, balance, regulation, control, awareness, empathy and stability. Yoga has vastly improved my physical and mental health. It has helped me become more aware about myself and helped me channelize my energies. I am deeply grateful that I have been given the opportunity to practice yoga in my lifetime.

On this International Day of Yoga, I encourage you to take up the practice of Yoga, immerse yourself and see how it changes your life for the better.

Thank you and Namaste!

A Step towards eco-friendly Roads

The rapid growth rate of population has resulted in an overall count of around 1.34 billion people in India which represents almost 17.85% of the world’s total population. This huge crowd is creating serious impact on environmental assets and resources of the nation. Such growth not only demand resources for sustenance but also needs good infrastructure for mobility, which adds huge amount of non-biodegradable solid wastes in the ecosystem. According to GOI report of “National Highways Development Project”, road network in India is growing at an annual rate of 4% since 1951 while the vehicles are increasing at a much faster rate of around 12% per annum. This higher rate of increment of vehicles on the roads as compared to the rate of construction of roads, has resulted in the formation of transverse and longitudinal cracks, potholes etc in flexible pavement. Problem worsens due to inefficient maintenance of the pavement. Improvement in bituminous mix design can be one of the possible solutions to this problem. A lot of binders are available such as SBS (Styrene Butadiene Styrene), APP (Atactic Polypropylene) etc but the benefits of these synthetic additives could only be utilised by keeping financial aspects in mind.

A recent survey of 60 cities in India by Central Pollution Control Board estimated that about 33.7 million pounds of plastic waste is being generated out every day, of which about 13.2 million pounds remain uncollected and are choking our environment. Similarly, another reason of hazardous solid waste accumulation is discarded rubber tyres, which are piling up at a high rate of 20% per annum. Studies show that around 62% of the waste tyres is disposed off via unknown routes both in cities and villages. Discarded rubber tyres and their disposal have become a major concern worldwide, studies show that more than 10 billion tyres are being discarded every year.
Being non-biodegradable products, plastic and rubber stay for a long time on site and cause environmental pollution. Conventional techniques such as land filling and incineration which are used to dispose plastic waste and rubber tyres create leachate on degradation, which have negative effect on land, water and air. Application of polymers in modified bitumen enhances the performance of asphalt pavements manifolds.

This technique of utilizing solid waste improves the engineering properties of bituminous mixes and also helps in the development of eco-friendly pavements for future generation.

Career options for Physics graduates

The rapid development of technology has enabled command of a wide variety of products and services. Homo sapiens, particularly its younger members, are so consumed by attention-seeking gadgets and ever broadening tastes that it is difficult for young people to engage with natural sciences. To put it differently natural sciences is as hot as career option relative to others like entertainment, media, IT, fashion, engineering, medicine, tourism, care industry, creative writing etc. Natural sciences seem to have taken back seat due to current technological advancement. However, as a matter of fact, natural sciences never take back seat. The very basis of technology is natural or fundamental science, without fundamental science technology nowhere exist. They are always relevant, always in demand.

Let us take a moment to reflect upon it. Do you enjoy gazing at cacophony of stars in the night? There strange-seeming pattern. Do you feel tantalized by the sight of corals amidst presence of colourful faunas? Do you feel that you could do something to better our understanding of more than 1.7 miilion SARS-CoV-2 type viruses which can enable humanity to live longer and better? Do you know that without some ground-breaking work in semiconductors the page you are reading now would have never been possible?  Is not this wonderful? And who would not want to be part of it? One can do all of these things, at fundamental level, through natural sciences.
Natural sciences have infinite possibilities, ever expanding, always at the frontier of humanity’s interface with nature. They are mother of all technological innovations. Natural sciences determine the limit within which engineering and medical sciences operate. Natural sciences broaden our imagination and enable us to work, thereafter, in any field we choose.
