Mathematics is not about number, equations, computations, or algorithms: it is about UNDERSTANDING. - William Paul Thurston
“Mathemactive”,
the Maths society of NCU (Formerly ITM University), was envisaged by Applied
Sciences and Humanities Department in 2008 with a vision to promote and
facilitate the knowledge and applicability of Mathematics in various fields and
encourage the students to participate and drive out their inherent fears of
mathematics being a ‘tough’ subject and subsequently increase their
‘mathematical quotient’ which forms the crux of most competitive exams as well.
Society’s
major focus is to ADVANCE the understanding of the modern mathematics and the technical
mathematics. The society PROVIDES
professional development activities, information and educational resources for
mathematics, increases participation of students from other institutes as
well. The society aims to PROMOTE public information and general
education about the nature of mathematics, discovery and results and
implications of latest research. It also INFORMS
students about new scientific knowledge, recent developments and emerging
opportunities in mathematics research and their implications.
The
society aims to organize events, seminars and workshops every year to extend
the scope of the mathematics and provide the students an opportunity to learn
new things. Faculty
of Department of Applied Sciences along with a devoted team of students had
come together to meet the institute’s vision of promoting mathematical research
and benefit the lovers of mathematics. It also
brings together the ideas of professors and facilitates the integration of
research by encouraging improved and easy methods of learning.
